“It's all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps,” ~ Martin Luther King
About Us
The Give 'Em A Break Foundation (GEABF) was born in 2001, when Patrick and Angela Murphy witnessed their hardworking neighbors struggling to keep their electricity on during a harsh winter in the White Mountains. Despite doing everything they could to make ends meet, the family’s electricity was shut off due to an unforeseen hardship. Moved by their situation and fueled by the desire to help, Patrick and Angela took action—and the GEABF was born. Over the next seven years, their efforts made a tangible difference in the lives of many.
In 2023, Ginny, the youngest daughter of Patrick and Angela, was inspired to reignite the foundation’s mission. Together, they elevated GEABF to new heights, expanding its reach across Arizona and aligning with the Arizona Qualified Charitable Organizations to better support individuals in the low-income bracket. With the help of generous donors and supporters, the foundation’s impact continues to grow and thrive.
At the heart of GEABF is the belief that humans helping humans can change lives. We hope that those we’ve helped will carry the torch forward, paying it forward by extending kindness to others facing unexpected challenges.
